we're tracking the potential for wintry weather. it won't be a factor in your morning commute, but it will play a factor in your evening drive home. you can see this morning most of the cloud are back to our west, even a few flurries flying around the asheville area. most of the snow they're going to receive won't come until later today as well. so let's go ahead and check in with those temperatures. they look similar to where they were yesterday. the catch with today, not as breezy so the wind chill not as big as a factor. but it's 13 in south hill, virginia 16 in roxboro. 20 right now in durham, again, 19 in raleigh, clayton, and goldsboro. the mid 20s we'll call it right around fayetteville and clinton this morning. we'll get straight to your fast forecast, as you're getting ready to head out the door, 8:00 a.m., 17 degrees, the clearest part of the day, lunch time today, 32. and that's exactly where we hit for a high yesterday. that's a hard number to digest. 37 then as we head towards 3:00 this afternoon, not as cold as yesterday.

that victim is a student but is going to be okay. officer did make an arrest, university official put the campus on lockdown while investigating but now say there's no threat to the campus and classes will start as usual at 8:00 a.m. so be aware of that. happening right now we continue our team coverage of the freezing temperatures. >> yeah, this morning, d.o.t. crews will be heading back out to treat the roads ahead of any winter weather we could see on this wednesday. wncn's emma wright joins us now live from the salt barn in raleigh with more on the governor's plan for this winter weather, emma? >> reporter: well, the governor has ordered that the state start preparing for any possible winter weather condition, we're here at the maintenance yard looking pretty dark here this morning, but we're told they're going to start filling up the truck with brine a little bit later on today. the state says they're not dpekting any is -- expecting any significant amount of sthoefl or ice -- snowfall or ice here in our area, but to play it safe. the real weather we're

chapel hill, 17 san welcome back, and a good morning to you. just about 5:10 dlon on this wednesday morning -- and it's a cold one, starting off with 19 degrees. the only silver lining i should say compared to yesterday morning, it's not as wipdy. you -- windy. you don't have to worry as brutal of a wind chill, 20 in durham, 16 roxboro, 13 south hill and just a reminder, mecklenburg county public schools are starting at 10:00 a.m. this morning. so if you're watching us from virginia, keep this in mind 19

forecast we drop to 17 by 7:00 a.m. 18 at 8:00 and then we make it in to the 20s by 9:00 a.m. pretty clear conditions out there this morning. as we head in to the afternoon, all of this is headed our way. so we have snow, freezing rain, even rain back to our west as this system approaches, it will be cold enough that i do think we could see flurries or light snow showers. ahead of this system, clouds are quickly going to increase throughout the day today. here's what i'm thinking. our high this afternoon, 37, then it's as you're getting in the car, driving home this evening, that's when we could see flurries or light snow showers right around 5:00, 6:00. those could enter the area. 45 our high on thursday and dry, our next system comes this to play on friday. this could be tricky and could start as a wintry mix early friday morning. more details coming up in your complete forecast. >> glad you're watching that forecast, alyssa. an important programming note to pass to you. wncn's excited to announce a new network affiliation.

quickly cloudy as we head throughout the morning, here we are, 1:00 still dry in the area. the mountain are starting to see snow early this afternoon. now, 6:00, look at this, it's going to be very isolated in nature, flurries, a light snow shower possible. look for a dusting, if you see a light snow shower and grassy surfaces, and it is going to be cold enough that there will be a few slick sfots on your -- spots on your evening drive home. the good news with this system, as fast as it moves in, it's going to move out. by midnight tonight, no longer tracking wintry weather, zies will -- skies will continue to clear for our morning, quiet day before storm number two of the week arrives, 7:00 a.m. on thursday, few spotty showers back to our shout -- south and west that will move through as we head towards early friday morning. here's the next system i'm talking about, an area of low pressure moving up the east coast and it's going to be a clash between all the moisture off to our south and east and the cold air off to our north

it looks like now, condition will be favorable to see a wintry mix early friday morning. maybe eveven throughout the morning drive. so that's going to make things tricky as we head towards friday afternoon, could transition in to a cold rain. so 37 our high today in raleigh, 36 durham, and 41 in fayetteville. heading in to tonight, the snow's going to end quickly, partly cloudy skies after a low near 26. and here's a look at your extended forecast, 45 and dry on our thursday, 37 then on tri, remember -- friday, remember, friday morning's commute could be tricky because i'm expecting that ongoing wintry mix to be happening. friday afternoon a cold rain and it looks like we could see more rain as we head towards saturday afternoon. sunday morning though, we could see a few flurries. friday, saturday, even in to sunday morning, still the forecast we have to watch close ri and still fine tune a lot of details. as we head towards next monday, should be sunny for us with a high of 52.
